Breakfast in Italy🍳🥐☕️

The basics:

  • Italian word for breakfast is colazione (koh-lah-tsee-oh-neh).

  • Restaurants have fewer staff, expect slower service and longer wait time.

  • Most Italians have a simple breakfast of a coffee and a brioche/ croissant for breakfast.

  • There are places that will offer an American style meal, but many will not.

  • It is frowned upon to order a cappuccino after noon. Some places may refuse to serve it.

  • Most Italians drink an espresso in the morning, order an americano for an american style cup of coffee.

  • Many places will not allow you to make a reservation for breakfast.

  • Some coffee bars will charge a different fee for sitting down at table service versus standing at the bar .
